This roadmap shows what we're working on and what we've recently released. All timelines are indicative and subject to change based on user needs and technical priorities.

ALPHA.GOV.BB

Outcome: People can complete some government tasks online through alpha.gov.bb, using a straightforward single government platform.

Launched the first version of alpha.gov.bb, establishing the core platform and design foundations and releasing the first set of end‑to‑end online forms so people can start to complete key government tasks digitally.

Digital Toolkit for Government

Outcome: Teams across government can design, build or buy and run digital services on a shared set of principles & standards, Making new and improved digital services are faster to deliver, more consistent, and easier for people to use.

Launched the first version of the Digital Toolkit for Government to provide shared, resource for The Government of Barbados and alpha.gov.bb, so teams can design, build or buy and run new services faster and more consistently while giving people a more coherent, accessible experience across government services.

Design System

Outcome: Teams across government can design and build digital services on a shared set of components, so new and improved services are faster to deliver, more consistent, and easier for people to use.

Launched the first version of the GovTech Barbados design system to provide shared, reusable components and patterns for alpha.gov.bb, so teams can design and build new services faster and more consistently while giving people a more coherent, accessible experience across government services.

Outcome:

Launched the first version of the Service Status Dashboard to provide an open and clear view of services we've deployed and our backlog of work.

Registration Department / Office of the Attorney General

Outcome: Reduce the number of in-person visits and make users aware of the status of applications and cases so they feel informed and empowered.

Improve the services get a copy of a Birth, Death, & Marriage certificates in collaboration with the registration department

Launched a pilot transformation of the birth registration process, integrated with alpha.gov.bb. Worked alongside the Registration Department and OpenCRVS, an open-source civil registration and vital statistics system.

Explore opportunities to broaden the scope of digital transformation further across the Office of the Attorney General

ALPHA.GOV.BB

Outcome: Users/citizens/people know that alpha.gov.bb is a single place to get authoritative information from the government of Barbados.

Raise awareness of alpha.gov.bb, drive traffic to live forms, and monitor and iterate those forms based on how well they are working.

Work with MDAs to enhance the current forms and back office processes

Carry out ongoing research with people on alpha.gov.bb, regularly testing content, journeys and features with them to understand their needs and behaviours and using what we learn to improve the service over time.

Improve alpha.gov.bb so people can quickly find what they need, by strengthening its information architecture, navigation and on-site search, and making content easier to discover from external search engines and large language models.

Scaling delivery of digital forms

Outcome: Building a platform that enables the rapid deployment of forms

Explore the use of AI to speed up the development of forms, and to supercharge the design of forms to make them easier for people to use.

Focussing on research and exploration rather than delivery. We are investigating how AI and reusable patterns could help us design and build forms more quickly and consistently, and testing early ideas and prototypes with teams before deciding what to take forward.

Licensing services

Outcome: Help people apply for and manage licenses more easily by bringing priority Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) processes online.

Work with the BLA and other organisations to prioritise and sequence their 60+ forms, identifying a first set of high‑impact, feasible services to bring online.

Start discovery on those priority license journeys, focusing on making applications simpler and clearer for people and businesses.

Tax, Revenue and National Insurance Services

Outcome: People can easily understand and pay their taxes on time, and disputes are dealt with transparently and amicably.

Work with the Barbados Revenue Authority, the National Insurance and Social Security Service (NISSS), and other organisations that impact tax and revenue services to understand where GovTech teams can have the most impact in their digital transformation

Healthcare Services

Outcome: Help people get the treatment they need at the best place for their needs.

Conduct research in collaboration with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital into the possibility of providing a digital self-triage service.

Outcome: Reduce the time, cost and complexity of doing business in Barbados.

Business creation and legal status:

Collaborating with Business Barbados to streamline the business lifecycle, eventually combining all the forms they need to complete into one single one stop service.

Life event: retiring in Barbados

Outcome: People approaching retirement can more easily understand their pension options and what to do next.

Work with NISS to understand how people in Barbados currently plan for retirement, where they struggle with pension rules and processes, and what information or tools would help most. Use this research to improve guidance about pensions on alpha.gov.bb and to explore, at a later stage, whether tools like a pension eligibility checker would add real value.
